The week before Mother's Day, the Official Black Lives Matter Memphis chapter will participate in a national campaign to bail out mother's who would otherwise spend the holiday in jail.  Our goal is to raise funds to help cover the cost of bail and raise awareness about the issues that currently exist with the money bail system and the impact of bail on mothers, caregivers, and families.

It is estimated that an average of 700,000 people are separated from their families and condemned to jail simply because they cannot afford to pay bail. This amounts to over 9 million dollars wasted by incarcerating people who have not even been convicted of a crime.
